Get your free estimateRheem Thermostat Installation: The Yonkers Owner’s Guide
We install Rheem-compatible thermostats in Yonkers for $185 – $425 installed, and most swaps take under an hour from the time our tech walks in the door. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, the old thermostat properly disconnected and removed, the new one mounted, programmed, and tested. Homeowners typically realize their thermostat has failed when the Rheem furnace or AC short-cycles, the display goes blank, or the room temperature drifts five degrees off the setting while the system runs constantly.

Andre Fuller, our owner, has handled enough Rheem thermostat failures across Yonkers to spot the pattern fast: the wiring connections corrode in older homes near the Hudson, or the internal temperature sensor drifts out of calibration and starts lying to the system. The fix is straightforward, but getting it matched to your specific Rheem model matters more than people expect.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
We install thermostats that work across the Rheem residential lineup, including the Classic, Prestige, and EcoNet smart thermostat series, as well as Rheem’s communicating models paired with R96V and R98V furnaces. The compatibility gotcha most Yonkers homeowners don’t know: Rheem communicating systems need a thermostat that speaks the same serial protocol as the control board. A generic “universal” thermostat will not run a Rheem communicating furnace correctly, no matter what the aisle label at the hardware store claims.
OEM Rheem thermostats, like the EcoNet Smart Thermostat, offer the cleanest integration but typically run $220 – $320 for the part alone before installation. Quality aftermarket options from Honeywell, Emerson, or ecobee work reliably on standard 24-volt Rheem systems and often cost $40 – $140, which is why we stock several on our trucks. The decision comes down to whether you want full brand-locked diagnostics or a solid thermostat that costs less now. We’ll tell you which makes sense for your model before you spend a dollar.
Note: Halden Heating and Air Yonkers is an independent HVAC service provider. We’re not affiliated with Rheem, but we service their equipment daily and know their wiring conventions by heart.

Signs Your Rheem Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Blank or flickering display. This usually points to a dead internal battery, a blown low-voltage fuse on the furnace control board, or a failed thermostat power supply. If the furnace still runs but the display is dark, the thermostat likely needs replacement, not the furnace.
- Room temperature reads 5+ degrees wrong. The internal thermistor, the small sensor that measures air temperature, drifts over time, especially in Yonkers homes where summer humidity and winter dry air swing hard. The thermostat keeps calling for heat or cooling at the wrong threshold.
- System short-cycles. The furnace or AC kicks on for two minutes, shuts off, then starts again ten minutes later. This premature cycling is often the thermostat’s relay failing to hold a steady call for heat or cooling, and it’s rough on compressors over time.
- Heat runs but AC won’t, or vice versa. If the system works in one mode but not the other, the thermostat’s switching contacts may have failed. Replacing the thermostat is cheaper than the wrong contractor condemning your compressor.
- Temperature setting keeps changing on its own. Programming glitches in aging digital thermostats cause the setpoint to reset to a default. You fight the thermostat for a week, then call us. The unit is failing internally, not being haunted.
None of these symptoms require you to panic. But four out of five mean replacement, and the quicker you swap, the less wear on your Rheem system’s more expensive parts.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Yonkers, a standard Rheem thermostat installation from Halden Heating and Air runs $185 – $275 when using a quality aftermarket thermostat, and $300 – $425 with an OEM Rheem EcoNet or Prestige model. The spread covers the thermostat cost, the labor to disconnect and remove the old unit, wiring verification, mounting, programming, and a full system test before we leave.
What drives the higher end: Rheem communicating systems that require the OEM EcoNet thermostat, homes with five or more wires that need a C-wire adapter or added common wire for smart thermostats, and older Yonkers houses where the wiring has been painted over or drywalled into place. Every job comes with our written guarantee on the work, our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and a written price before we start. No surprise at the door.
For context, most furnace repairs in Yonkers run $150 – $700 depending on the part, and a tune-up is $80 – $200. Thermostat installation sits in the lower middle of that range and prevents larger failures downstream.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things before calling: confirm the thermostat’s circuit breaker and the furnace switch are on, replace the thermostat batteries if the display is blank, and check whether the wiring terminals behind the faceplate are visibly corroded or loose. Those checks take ten minutes and cost nothing.
What we don’t recommend: opening the furnace cabinet to trace low-voltage wiring while the system has power. The furnace blower and control board carry line voltage, and touching the wrong connection trying to “just check the wiring” is how a $200 thermostat job becomes a $700 control board replacement. Low-voltage thermostat wiring is safe to handle, but the furnace itself is not the place to learn electrical repair. If the batteries and breaker check out and it’s still acting up, call us at (838) 213-7827. We’ll give you a real number before we send a tech.
FAQs
Most Rheem thermostats last 8 – 12 years in Yonkers homes, with west-side houses nearer the river sometimes seeing failures a few years earlier due to humidity and salt air corrosion on the internal circuit board.
Almost never in a cost-effective way. A thermostat’s internal sensor, relay, or display board isn’t sold separately, and the labor to source and solder a replacement part exceeds the cost of a new unit. Replacement is the repair.
Most installations take 45 – 75 minutes from arrival to full system test. Older Yonkers homes with non-standard wiring or missing C-wires can add 20 – 30 minutes.
Yes. Our techs carry several Honeywell, Emerson, and universal thermostats that work on standard Rheem systems, plus select OEM Rheem models for common furnaces. If your system requires a specialized EcoNet model, we’ll have it ordered and installed within a few days with a scheduled time.
Need this fixed today? Call (838) 213-7827. Andre or a member of the Halden team will answer, ask about your Rheem model, and give you an honest price range before we ever roll a truck to your Yonkers address. We’d rather give you a real number upfront than a good story after the fact.
